White & Case has boosted its financial restructuring and insolvency practice in the US with a double partner hire from Ropes & Gray.

Keith Wofford and Stephen Moeller-Sally join White & Case in New York and Boston respectively, the latest in a series of restructuring hires at the firm. Both Wofford and Moeller-Sally are creditor-side lawyers, typically representing asset managers and investment funds.

Thomas Lauria, global head of White & Case’s restructuring practice, said: “As we continue to grow both our debtor and creditor-side capabilities with outstanding talent, we are delighted to add Keith and Steve. They are both brilliant, senior restructuring lawyers who have led many high-profile matters.”

Wofford was previously co-managing partner of Ropes & Gray’s New York office and co-chair of its restructuring practice. The corporate bankruptcy veteran was named a Fellow by the American College of Bankruptcy last year, following a run for the New York State Attorney General job a year earlier.

Moeller-Sally joins White & Case after almost two decades at Ropes & Gray, bringing with him a wide-range of bankruptcy and insolvency experience, from chapter 11 cases to distressed sales and insolvency-related litigation. His clients have spanned numerous industries, including energy and utilities, manufacturing, chemicals, retail, real estate and telecommunications.

The duo’s arrival follows the addition of a quartet of debtor-focused partners from Sidley Austin in October. Jessica Boelter, Bojan Guzina, Michael Andolina and Andrew O’Neill all joined the firm’s Chicago office.

Speaking at the time of O’Neill’s arrival in mid-October, Lauria said: “Andrew is a highly accomplished restructuring attorney who has led several company-side restructurings. His addition further advances our strategy to expand our company and sponsor-side work in the restructuring arena.”

Last month, Ropes & Gray hired special situations partner Samuel Norris from Kirkland & Ellis in London to strengthen its transatlantic restructuring capabilities, reuniting Norris with his former Kirkland colleague Matt Czyzyk, who joined the firm in June. Also in November, Ropes & Gray hired another ex-Kirkland restructuring partner, Ryan Dahl, who joined in New York following an almost three-year stint at Weil Gotshal & Manges.
