The Global Legal Post today launches the second edition of the Law Over Borders comparative guide to Anti-counterfeiting.

Edited by Lorne Lipkus, a founding partner of Canadian firm Lipkus Law, the guide features contributions from an array of leading firms in key jurisdictions across the world.

The expanded second edition, which is available online, in PDF format and in print, features updated guidance on protecting brands against counterfeiting and the grey market, covering relevant legislation, enforcement measures and cross-border strategies in key jurisdictions across the world.

New sections highlight the ever-more sophisticated tactics being used by counterfeiters and explore how advancements in technology can be deployed to combat them.

Contributing firms include: Aoki Ferreira Mattioli & Yamashita Propriedade Intelectual (Brazil), Lipkus Law (Canada), Epstein Drangel - IP Counselors Beijing (China), Malamis & Associates (Greece), IDEAS IPS (Guatemala), Gilat Bareket & Co (Israel), Arochi & Lindner (Mexico), Jackson, Etti & Edu (Nigeria), BARLAW (Peru), Ellipse IP (Spain), Pakharenko and Partners (Ukraine), Freeths (UK), Epstein Drangel (US) and Cervieri Monsuárez (Uruguay).

In one of three thematic chapters, former law enforcement official Danny Fournier, senior manager with Rothmans, Benson and Hedges Canada’s department of illicit trade prevention explains how an online monitoring programme led to the reporting of 9,115 illegal posts offering to sell contraband cigarettes within a two-year period, all of which were removed.

There are also chapters by Phil Hamilton, co-founder and managing director of anti-counterfeiting software company Countercheck, and Cervieri Monsuárez senior partner Virginia Cervieri and senior associate Viviana Cervieri, who address the importance of embedding sustainability into anti-counterfeiting measures.

The online guide’s easy-to-use digital format allows readers to quickly assess how different jurisdictions tackle common issues by comparing contributing authors’ answers to the carefully framed questions.

Lipkus will officially launch the print edition next week at the Anti-Counterfeiting World Law Summit in London, which is hosted by GLP and takes place on 7 November.
