Top 20 US firm Mayer Brown has promoted 42 lawyers to its partnership, with a further 23 being promoted to counsel.

The round is one of the largest yet for the Chicago-based firm and saw promotions across 10 practices and 13 global offices. 

In the aggregate the round included 29 women, or 47% of the total, a slight step down on last year’s round when 55% of the 53-strong cohort were women. 

Like last year, banking and finance and litigation and dispute resolution saw the most promotions, with 20 and 17 respectively. Corporate and securities had nine, with the remainder spread between the firm’s tax, IP, real estate markets, financial services regulatory and enforcement, employment and benefits, restructuring and legal risk management practices. 

Last year’s promotions were fairly evenly spread between the US and the firm’s international offices but this year were concentrated in its home country, where 43 lawyers were promoted to partner and counsel roles, including 11 in its Chicago headquarters. Washington DC and New York got 10 apiece, while eight moved up in Charlotte and four in Los Angeles. 

London had the most promotions outside of the US, with eight, including Alastair Dolman and Harriet Hainsworth making partner in the corporate and securities team and Matt Lilley’s elevation to partner in the banking and finance practice. The Europe promotions were rounded out with five in Paris and another in Brussels. 

Five lawyers also moved up in Brazil across Rio de Janeiro and São Paulo, with the round completed by a promotion apiece in Mexico City, Dubai and Singapore, where Bryan Tan made partner in the litigation and dispute resolution team. The firm also bolstered its Singapore presence late last year when it formed a joint venture with local firm PK Wong & Nair, which is known for its disputes work.
