Linklaters has promoted 17 women out of 41 new partners in its latest promotion round, achieving its gender diversity target for a third consecutive year.

The 41% of female promotions was the same proportion as last year, just ahead of the 40% diversity target the firm set in 2020. The firm also hit its annual target for at least 15% of partner promotions in the UK and US to be from minority ethnic backgrounds.

In addition to the 41 partner promotions, the firm also elevated 53 to counsel globally. All promotions will be effective from the start of May.

The firm’s mainstream corporate practice saw the most partner promotions with 10, followed by banking (six) and capital markets and tax (five each). The dispute resolution team saw four promotions, including Rebecca McGregor and Andrew Poulton in London, Patrick Ashby in New York and Rebecca James in Singapore. That compares to just one disputes lawyer in the 2022 cohort.

In total, the broader corporate division accounted for 20 promotions and finance for 17.

The magic circle firm’s London headquarters bagged the most promotions, with 16 making partner. Its mainland Europe offices saw 14 promotions (including two apiece in Paris and Brussels), while Asia saw seven (five of which in Hong Kong), the Americas three and just one in the Middle East (Dubai capital markets lawyer Dalia Nammari).

Outside of those promotions, Arthur Peng and Benran Huang have also been promoted to the equivalent of partner at Zhao Sheng Law Firm, its joint operation in China.

Earlier this month, Slaughter and May added 10 to its partnership, with women making up 40% of the intake. That is a significant improvement on 2022’s round, when just one of eight promotions were female.

In January, Hogan Lovells promoted 38 to partner, with women accounting for almost 60% of the cut.
