Addleshaw Goddard (AG) has made up 26 lawyers in a record promotions round that sees women make up more than half of the cohort.  

The round is six larger than the previous two years’ 20-strong cohorts and includes 14 women – 54% of the total, up from last year’s 30% and 2022’s even gender split.

It comes amid a concerted growth push at the firm that has seen it add 63 partners over the past year through lateral hires and internal promotions, taking its total partner count to 429.  

Like last year, the latest cohort includes lawyers from each of Addleshaws’ four divisions – corporate and commercial, finance and projects, litigation and real estate – that advise across the firm’s core sectors of energy and utilities, financial services, healthcare, real estate, retail and consumer, and transport.

The firm once again focused its promotions on its home turf, with 21 of those promoted based in the UK. Nine were made up in London, including competition lawyer Sarah Randall, whose promotion follows AG’s former competition head, Bruce Kilpatrick, rejoining Linklaters at the start of the year.  

There were also six promotions in Leeds, five in Manchester and one in Edinburgh. Outside of the UK there were two promotions in Dublin, which went to corporate finance duo John Darmody and Doreen Mescal, and one apiece in Paris, Luxembourg and Dubai.

The firm’s corporate finance practice welcomed the most new partners, with five, while there were four promotions in the finance team. Three moved up in the construction and engineering team and two apiece in the commercial and financial disputes teams. The rest of the promotions were spread across practice areas including commercial litigation, transactional real estate, global investigations, corporate and competition, among others.

The promotions follow a record financial year for the firm, with revenue in the year to 30 April 2023 growing 18% to £443m against an equal rise in total profits to £184m. The firm declined to disclose profits per equity partner (PEP), which edged up 2% in FY22 to £866k, saying at the time it no longer used it to measure performance.    

The promotions are effective 1 May 2024. The newly-appointed partners are:
