Nazifah Namayanja, the vice president of the MCJL told the government that the Qadhi (Sharia law) courts that are a part of all mosques need to be gazzetted and that their administrative staff need to be put into a system of training. At the moment, she said, according to New Vision, which sub-titles itself 'Uganda's leading daily', they are able to deal with cases on marriage, divorce, inheritance and custody. But she says that some go into cases beyond these areas including rape. She said: 'Qadhi court administrators lack knowledge about the secular law and human rights. They continue to handle cases beyond their jurisdiction.'
