LCA president Michael Colbran QC highlighted concerns about the way lawyers are being treated in the country. He said: 'An independent legal profession and judiciary is an essential component of the rule of law.' He also pointed to the impeachment of the Sri Lankan Chief Justice at the start of 2013, saying that his removal did not appear compliant with the rule of law. Earlier in November the Sri Lankan authorities revoked visas for three human rights speakers who were due to appear at a conference in the state, organised by the Human Rights Institute and by the Bar Association of Sri Lanka.
